Trig Haroldson's '72 BMW R60/5
Trig is to the Midwest what Norm Abram of New Yankee Workshop fame is to New England, only better. To hire Trig as your master carpenter, your first questions should be ''Can this be done?'' and ''How long will it take?'' Afterwards, you might ask ''How much will it cost?''
Trig bought his R60 'used' in Colorado during the early 70's and rode it back to Illinois. He later took a short break (18 years) from riding. The lonely 'slash 5' moved between garages and basements while the right piston's top compression ring slowly froze in the piston groove and rusted to the cylinder wall. Really now, how much trouble would it have been for Trig's wife Maggie to kick the engine over once a week for the last eighteen years?

Trig and I have replaced the 27 year old rear main seal. The flywheel has been lightened and balanced. The carbs have been rebuilt and the tank boiled out, sealed and repainted. Both cylinders have been honed clean and new rings have been installed. A stainless exhaust system was mounted on the bike. The complete list of work done to this motorcycle would be too long for this page. This short wheel base R60 had just 12,043 original miles when it was put into storage.

If you've got one, flaunt it!
